Portrait of a Graduate

Evangel Christian Academy aims to glorify the Triune God and serve His Church by providing an enduring classical, Christian education in Colorado Springs. We seek to deliver instruction of the highest quality through both full and part-time programs in a vibrant and supportive community that respects the vital role parents play in the lives of their children. With these end goals in mind, our portrait of a graduate encompasses seven distinct aspects:

  • Gladly submits to God’s authority as our Heavenly Father
  • Finds primary identity in Christ; seeks to be transformed into His likeness
  • Pursues purpose in Christ (because of Him, through Him, for Him)
  • Values participation with and service to a local church body
  • Regards all work as a grateful response to the good news of Jesus Christ
  • “Feeds” on God’s Word (Is 55:2, Ps 119:11, 1 Pet 2:2) and nurtures affection for it
  • Cultivates a life of prayer and reliance on God
  • Trusts God and His means of grace amid trial, temptation, or affliction

  • Dignifies and respects all people as made in the image of God
  • Practices hospitality with one’s gifts and resources
  • Pursues servant-leadership when given responsibility for others
  • Honors authority in thought, word, and deed
  • Extends grace and mercy to others
  • Possesses compassion for the brokenhearted
  • Protects the weak and oppressed

  • Values learning as a lifetime pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty
  • Physically trains one’s body for health and fitness as an act of stewardship
  • Delights in all subjects with wonder and awe for the Author of them
  • Undertakes challenging subjects and topics
  • Reads carefully, critically, cheerfully, and copiously
  • Seeks to understand both sides of an argument with intellectual honesty
  • Exhibits mastery of subjects and excellence in academic pursuits
  • Finds rest, play, and joy in the act of learning

  • Listens carefully and asks probing questions
  • Speaks and writes eloquently, honestly, graciously, and effectively
  • Reasons clearly while discerning what is true
  • Logically evaluates choices and applies biblically-informed wisdom
  • Allows for patient reflection as a means of discernment
  • Employs principles and tools of the Liberal Arts Tradition

  • Becomes adept with the progression of Western thought through the study of theology, philosophy, and literature
  • Trusts in the authority, clarity, necessity, and sufficiency of Scriptures

  • Is faithfully present in the world, even if it is hostile to the Christian faith
  • Views career as a vocation from God and a service to His Kingdom

  • Recognizes and loves beauty as displayed in God’s creation
  • Embraces God’s gift to mankind as co-creators
  • Values God’s common grace given to man via the arts and in society

  • Embraces humility as the root of all virtue
  • Understands that virtue is Spirit-wrought according to the grace of God

Our Portrait of a Graduate Summary Statement:

At Evangel Christian Academy, we aim to graduate young men and women who fulfill the great commandments of Scripture to love God with all their heart, soul, and mind and to love others as themselves. Graduates will also love learning in a lifetime pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. They will speak and write with wisdom and eloquence as they engage cultures with a Christian worldview and for the glory of God. They will delight in the beauty of God’s creation and man’s reflection of it. And they will walk humbly with their God and among one another.
