One Generation to Another

The end of the school is the occasion for so much reflection on the past year, accounting of things achieved, and a lifting of our heads from the work of school to the wonders of God. There is the beginning for newly enrolled families and newly hired teachers and also the end of a legacy for teachers and principal. Our sovereign and gracious Lord works all these things for our good.

A verse that seems so appropriate for our school and on this occasion is Psalm 145:4, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.”  What a wonderful and true picture of ECA at the end of its 52nd year! From Grandparents’ Day to the Eighth Grade Promotion to the 4th and 5th Grade Spring Concert and to Graduation 2023…generations are invested and present, and all of us declaring God’s mighty works.

This verse also reminds me of the great partnership ECA enjoys with parents and their churches. Indeed, it is the parents who bear the primary responsibility and have the primary voice with their children, but it is a whole “generation” that “commends your works” to the next generation.

I don’t know what will happen at graduation ceremonies across the country this year—perhaps some shameless self-promotion or the sharing of empty life philosophies. But this much I know: ECA’s Graduation will give testimony to God’s mighty works and commend them from one generation to another.

Consider coming to our Class of 2023 Graduation this year on May 25th, even if you don’t yet have a graduate. Come witness the blessing of community and the faithfulness of God in the lives of our students.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Stephen Sprague, Head of School
